'Experience'.
It is the single largest and significant source of learning in my life.
But, certain things..I just try again despite past disappointments, pains and perturbs. I can't help refraining from those.
You know what, I don't give a damn to those. I just listen and follow what my intuition says. They somehow already know what I really want in life.

Value of a Rupee

This post talks about a recent experience of mine when I was travelling from Erode to Chennai on May 1, the Universal Labor Day. It was an unplanned trip and so got an unreserved ticket in a day train. If you had ever travelled in an unreserved coach on a holiday, you would better know how it is. You can neither sit nor stand in the same place for more than 45 min.

The combat of everyone’s eyes looking around for any gap, the discomfort of each place where you stand or sit, the densely crowded coach and the typical summer of Tamil Nadu had enough to make me repent for anything I did the whole day.

The train passed Salem junction and the time was around 9.15. I saw a hawker selling ‘vadas’ for 2 Rs a piece. Though I was not interested and not sure of its hygiene, I just thought I would buy as he was old and seemed like financially challenged.

‘Two vadas please’, and I gave him a 5 rupee coin. He served those in a paper and said that he would give the change later. About an hour later, he found me in my new place dozing in the upper berth and returned the one rupee.

On a retrospect of the past one hour:

I tasted that ‘vada’, it wasn’t good and so went near the toilet to find the trash bin and it wasn’t there. I crushed those in that paper and threw it out through the door. By this time, the hawker has moved to the next compartment. Just as I was looking out through the door and the train passing fast across the houses, trees and bushes along the side of track, a few thoughts maneuvered my mind leaving a few behind.

i) Will he return that rupee? Cha, how easily am cheated. It is definitely my ignorance that had led me here. I can even give 5 or 10 rupees to a disabled person, but I don’t want to be cheated by such a person. I am sure he won’t come back to this coach. But what inhibits me from approaching him and asking for that?

ii) My internal conscience gave me a gentle push to ‘step up’ ask him about the rupee. But may be the middle class mentality, which few Tamil cinema directors are good in cinematographing, stopped me from doing it. I just couldn’t imagine getting affronted when I ask him for the rupee.

iii) Be it whatever we study or contribute through work, we are good at delivering only in our comfort zone. The entities beyond our zone (or similar ones) are completely different and I had a strong feel that I don’t know much about those. There is nothing I can do and is this what they say ‘live with it’ attitude? Whatever, I have to move on and so is everybody.

I was thinking that I would forget this whole incident in a couple of hours and just moved to a seat in the upper berth. A short sleep was obvious, but the hawker’s search for me wasn’t so. He found and woke me up and returned that one rupee. I just gave a surprised look at him, and was wondering why I didn’t say thanks. Instead I told, ‘Vadas were good… Just add little more salt’. :)

an ordinary day in an extraordinary life form

well, this post is also about my experience, but a different genre.

Many times we recall our memories of past, and stop on a few which persist and seem to be special ones - happiness, fun, love, friends, girls, learning on one side and sorrow, failures, upset, ego, anger and frustration on the other side. These moments perish until you find one in the other side and keep swinging; these keep you excited and at the peak of your energy levels.

Leave aside those and lets talk about the non-special 'ones'. I want to share how an ordinary day works for me, filled with little fun n all emotions. Let me take you there!! The following is an excerpt from my 24 years in this macrocosm, taken from my diary and added.

Date: April 19th , 2007 Venue: K.K. Nagar

...I was dragged in to the kitchen by my wife invoking the olfactory receptors. Was curious about what she has done in the..
'dei.. time 7 da. enthiri enthiri..'
oh ya.. another dubious dream and woke up with a sigh..
'intha kanuvu laam en varuthu.. itha laam anubavikalaama vendaamaa aandavaa..'

'Mom, how many times hav i told u to wake me up enough at 6.45 itself..', looked at my cell phone clock showing 5 past 7. Just checked the morning fwds, went to the washroom thinking about the next few hours of my day and probing myself for what am up to.

'Ma, 2 idlis are enough. time aachu.. am leaving.tata'
'dei mahesh.. viboothi vachiyaa nethi la.. ', my mom shouted in a pleasant tone :) as i ran down the steps to the road; walk for 12 mins to catch the bus.

As i walked, 'hey, am coming to pondy gh..' (guest house).. sms'ed to my TCS Bus 37 comrade to let her know that she cud stop the bus wen i am on the way.

'eh we ll sit there.. sun is on this side..', she said. She was delighted with the window seat, and so was I for the start of the day.
As i ogled at Aarthi, a voice peeped,

'yaara sight adikkura.. antha Target project ponna..ava unakku senior..'
'sight laam adikala.. chumma paarthaen. she looks like 'aasai' film suvalakshmi ..', every time the bus turns and puts me in a imbalanced position to look through the aisle, i coundn't resist from looking at her.
'paarkurathaa.. suvalakshmi ah? over ah therla unakku..'
'ivangalum aprom velachery la that girl who boards the bus, Pinky..i just like both of them..:)..'
'Pinky ah.. athu nee vecha paeru..ava paeru Bobby.'
'seri etho onnu. pinky is a nice name too..'

The bus was hardly moving in the OMR construction stretch and I just looked out of the window to see a married couple stopping at a tender coconut shop. Oh ya, its summer and got reminded of dad advising to take one during hot times. Many times, when I don't know how to kill the time, my moto comes handy. I just browse through each contact and recollecting when i spoke with them last. (this is one way, how i keep in touch with most of my buddies)
Then called up Erode (one of my buddy from psg) to check what's the plan for this weekend. What we usually do is watch the night shows, gluttonous dinners and Nesam court terrace talks. (the 'was' type hangout of our gang).

The bus entered our office premises and i got down the bus walking towards the cafeteria. The next 20-30 mins is the most colorful part of the day. Buses from all ends of Chennai arrive at the same time and one could imagine how the cafe would be. :)

I was serving my notice period in TCS and searching for a job too. These PM's.. I tell you!. They expect the utmost productivity and commitment only during such times.
'rathna, nethu telecon la rajesh enna sonaaru... atha anupputeengala?.. oh ok... naama May month ST run start pannidalaam. Oru plan mathiri ready pannunga.. ok!'

I used to love my job, but all changed in the last 3 weeks. TCS and my project were quite significant in my learning curve. 'My code runs' is a good feel. mebbe only for the first time. :)

whatever happens, our gang in TCS-Pru ODC is strict in this. LUNCH. The timing is important to posit ourselves comfortably in the always crowded cafetaria. We look forward for a better experience beyond food. :)

Post lunch, though we dont burn our lungs, 20 mins in the smoking zone burning ourselves in the hot sun. Smoking zone is one place where the CEO and caller share the same space. May be that is the design :P

Well, thanks to the biological clock. It is tea time and to give a serious thought about career too. As if i coded it, the tea time at office is always a place to dig more into future in IT, discussing about management decisions and well the inevitable politics.

Reached home, phone calls and then logged into my system. Few minutes of chat with aparna, which will contain atleast 30 smileys. Had a good dinner and I go to bed around 11. Probably, I said to myself that the day was good and prayed for a similar one or cursed myself for getting fixed like this.

Whatever, lots of uncertainties are in store for the next day or even the next minute. But, do I care ?
However many of those don't bother me. After all, i live a life that is pre-designed and trailed by people whom i have never met.

Hello readers,
After a series of posts in regard to nostalgia, photos, pasanga and etc, i guess its time to (and i can) write something about the people of fairer sex and my familiarization with them.

Right from the teens to twenty five, I have (or was, not sure?) been quite evangelical in my doings, reactions, assertions and behavior altogether in stances of feminine presence, and of course not equally enthusiastic. :) But, all these for a cause? I don't know. May be to talk or impress or just to impart a feel or to get along or what not?

The people whom we have met and got acquainted all the way through our life can be categorized as gurus, friends, mentors, close friends, forever comrades and the list varies person to person. But, where do I categorize the women whom have influenced me for a short extent, say for an hour, a day or a month or a year and then go away with no trail left. If you are not getting at whom all i am stressing, just see below..

I suppose, now you all got whom i meant. Though, these group of girls have been for a shorter duration of my and not much of their influence into the future, those times were paramounted by them. Well, i feel it is not right to forget them completely or ignore too. Years later, when I get in touch them or when I just hear about them or see their profile in orkut and when I think more than twice to scrap her or not, those old moments into your mind and leave behind an unconscious smile on your face. (the trail?)

But why we do or get into this? The fascination about girls and short lived moments with them have indeed kept ourselves swinging between excited states. Well, for all my thoughts and questions, even if i don't find a point of reference in my circle, I do get in the internet world. Lets see what a few people who study these (i seriously can't understand their motivation) got to say.

Psychologist experts of the 90's suggest that Men and women can't be real friends and only sexual tension is to blamed which inevitably persists between any two red-blooded heterosexual beings. But this may hold valid in an era where women were at home and men at work. In the present urbanized life style, women are almost everywhere and imparting their prominence in areas where we never thought. They work with us, share social and sports interests. Starting from Winner vadivelu to Washington victory, women have their own opinion and interests.

But, does that imply men-women relationship can be a perfectly balanced and complement each other. It gets tricky if you ask me. Almost every Men-women relationships we see in drama, movies and stories winds up into romance. Indian cinema has its own influence too on us, which is a separate story. The transition and changes in life style, work place, internet, westernization and welcoming of love marriages in our society have definitely put me in inertia at particular time of cross-sex friendships at a mature age. Is it love or just friendship or platonic love? These questions struck my mind in the last couple of years, when I observed an exorbitant change in myself and when I got into cross-sex buddyhood with a few. The public eye and society put in some barriers for decision making, but only a few overcome those.

Though am not sure, how men-women friendships end up, but I can definitely say both benefit from this cross-sex buddyhood. I have learnt quite a few things, like what women value in a relationship, expectations and priorities from them. Its quite interesting and the surprise comes when I realize am completely wrong in understanding them. :)

Well, i hope you all think when am I concluding. I honestly don't know how to conclude. Though this post was inspired by Valentine's day and its association with a normal self-centered citizen, I couldn't put myself into a closed box. You please decide your 'right', 'wrong' ones and set the limits.

Male naive : 'aval nalam vazha enaalum en vazthukkal' :)

Male single: 'last v day ku enna pannaeno, athae thaan.. :) '

Enna kaetta, i would say 'still single... ready to mingle :) '

appreciate your time for coming here. This post is just about a collage i have tried with some good pics of my friends.

This is my first collage i have ever tried.. in picassa. I can definitely say, this is a collage of memories. These photos were clicked at different places namely Erode, Mangalore, Palladam,Ooty,Munaar, Chennai and Mahabs.

I am planning to print this or a similar one and frame it large at home. A few years later, I am sure we all would be showing these to our kids and trying to recollect those golden moments.

You can also try making one or atleast getting it done at any good photo studio with few pics of your friends, family and loved ones.

As the title says, i am posting a few clicks of mine in this post. But, I am not the photographer who takes a tripod, talks about aperture, focal length, f/4 f/16 fractions and those variations. These sound as jargon.

Well, let me talk about my sony then. I laid my hands for the first time on a digi cam during college.(courtesy Lava). After taking about 3000 pics in college, i was comfortable (only) with a Sony.

Joined TCS, and you guessed it right. A new Sony DSC W55 5MP for 18K, inclusive of all accessories. Apparently, my dad questioned, 'enna da 18,000 ku worth ah?'. I never knew i would have a suitable answer a few years later.

one 'fine' day, she was here!

Suitable answer? No no, I am not hitting that i developed my photographic skills and proving the worth. This kind little sony has travelled with me a long way, capturing the best moments of my life and giving 'life' to the past when i see them.

everything incinerates in life!!

one fine day in FM Library (i do visit sumtimes),
"Strategic Supply Management does involve performance metrics for supplier performance and in overall, assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of supply management. It is difficult to manage and improve something which we do not measure. Performance measures are ....." wait a minute.. what did i read?
"It is difficult to manage and improve something which we do not measure.".
It signalled something through the spine upward to the mastermind. Am i not measuring something which i want to manage? yep :P
Went home, looked for an inch tape and took a measurement of my paunch. I would need it to compare with my efforts on reducing the same.
got reminded of my friend pointing out that management studies is pure common sense!! :)

Another fine day, after a thoughtful self malediction for ending up in this crap place, called up my friend to kill the nighttime. The gossip was all about friends getting married this year and trying to incite ourselves to be conscious of the often overlooked fact that we are getting 'older'.

enga pasanga - intro - Part 2

Part - 1

before introducing each one, let me tell you how this gang formed. (am thinking) ...frankly, till date, no one knows how we all ganged up. invaluables beyond different classes, native places n companies gave a strong bonding. I hope it continues for ages.

was thinking with whom to start with and then I decided to go with my list. First comes our 'pudhu mapla' Magesh

we call him the 'paapa' in our group. 'Magesh from Thottiyapatti, Salem' nu gethaa solluvaan. 'vaathiyaar paiyan makku' nu oru pazhamozhiya disprove pannitaan. BITS, Pilani (distance) la MS panraan..weighttu party. a very active person in our group.. enga ponaalum munthittu vanthu nippaan naan varla nu :). hostel la oru yellow bag vechurupaan and atha pathi naan pesavae maataen. :) his famous quote 'avan avan prechanai avanukku.. hmm' :) unforgettable memories include, second year combined studies, 'cts placed' fone call, slap on my face in A-110, ooty trip - night stories, n Nesam Court fun.

ivarukku kalyaanam nga May la. vazthukkal... let us join hands in wishing him a very happy married life.
P.S -> don't get away with his 'innocent' looks. They are deceptive to the highest degree.

next, let us talk about this gentleman Chenniyangiri. we call him the 'Nari' in our group. a fun loving person and bayangaramaana stand up comedy king. TCS placements ku Name ah 'Chen Yan Giri' nu kuduthavar. He is from Karavalasu,Erode. enna kaetta romba nalla paiyan. Most of our fun trips in 2005-08 were organized/initiated by Chenni.. enga group la Bday treat idea aarambichuthu ivanthu la thaan. Since his bday falls in Nov, diwali time fun n nite show cinemas.. fun moments include, pondy trip-07, moonrakers-07, bday celebs.. technically, DSP DIP la sema interest n brainy too. GATE paiyan... did't get motivated at the right time i guess. But we can all expect more from this 'promising' person..

for no reason, i get reminded of 'Premji amaran' if i think of giri. I forgot to mention, frequent ah get ups ah maathuvaan. nalla irukkum aana... :D

aduthathu Guru Anand, the 'Annachi' and 'motta-muni' of our gang. He is from Palladam and kitta thatta nalla paiyan. Ivan 3 roses tea na, comedy, torture for fun and senti are the flavors. Enga group oda thanga thalaivar and a person who lives to his words. He chats and talks to our friend's parents more than us and am sure you will guess it right where he is hitting :). moments that we can't forget are selvaraghavan clicks, intrams skit, sathyamangalam road trip, Thada falls trip(a big flop) and my sweet tortures. enna killiyae saavadipaan, paavam naan. He is societal , cares for the welfare of ppl and I believe he will live up to his dream of being a politician!!
ivana samaalikuradhu kashtam thaan.. :)

next n last for today is our playboy, maddy n a captivating personality. that s 'lurie' for you.. Pravin Kumar. He is from Salem, worked in TCS and then now, IIM K la he is rocking. 'maddy' n 'lorry' ah combine panni Lurie nu paeru vanthuchu. 'Nilai maarum ulagil Nilaikkum enra kanavu' apdi oru paatu irukku. apdi pala kanavugal oda PSG ECE join panaan.. bad luck pravin and i am sure you are happy at IIMK now. He is highly enthusiastic, hush-hush entertainer and i don't need to elucidate on the fairer sex. memorables are his mounam paesiyathaey style walk, 1 foot stool story and Tcs ILP pranks.. now he is moving forward in his aspirations towards management.. good luck!!

Florida Trip - its a small world!!

US vantha intha rathna a.k.a rathu ku enga suthi paarkalaam nu theriyaama iruntha natkal.. sumtime in sept wen he spoke to his well wisher keshor in Tampa and gave some thought abt winter break in florida...

enga da porathu Florida la nu yosichuttu irunthappo Pru-DAP buddies in Jacksonville nyabagam vanthuchu... potaan ticket ah .. philly to jax and tampa to philly - a 12 day long trip.. though it seemed liked a premeditated trip, nothing was planned until first week of dec... engal thanga thalaivar JP varaen nu sonnathukku aprom thaan itinerary potom (enna kodumai sir ithu :D)...

as you all may know, this guy rathu is very much excited abt meeting old buddies, talking, talking old stories n having fun.. this trip gave him the best it could... i say nostalgia is not some hysteria or amnesia.. it is a good feel :)

@Jacksonville - Dec 18th - 21st

reached Jax on 18th, thursday. Met TCS-Pru buddies whom i tot i would never in the coming years, namely Ramesh, Nandha kishore, Balaji n Narayanan.. aprom oru puthu friend pudichaen Mr Benchu sorry Mani nu.. On saturday we drove to St Augustine, the oldest city n port in US and the place was quite different from others in US. I was reminded of tanjore agraharaa vicinity. We then watched Slumdog Millionaire that night..felt that the 'better' India can be pictured in an international banner.. :P

On sunday, drove to Daytona beaches and I had good time there with my cam and clicking solo ones. I then moved to Orlando and met an old tech buddy, Ramesh from PSG Mech for dinner.. post dinner and the whole of Monday, interluded CSE guys' Orlando get together .. We then visited National Sea Shore Village and some reserved park there.. it was nice seeing all the old tech buddies together.. bala, trv, deepan, ranjith n others.. :). a rarified instance..

Monday night, keshor (my mentor at TCS) picked me up from Orlando and then we drove to Tampa.. Applebees la dinner with light boozings... the next day flew with some purchases in Brandon mall n stayed at pranav's house.. seeing mr pranav aka bava in his abridged :) version was a surprise.. (stomach burnings for me :P)

on wednesday, 24th, met Karthik sriram (after 9 years :) )for lunch in tampa.. psbb school buddy.. the 4 day trip comrades were Keshor, Pranav, Sathish, JP and myself.. we then jaunted south florida starting that wednesday evening.. Key West (exclusive jet skiing and para gliding..) followed by Miami, Tampa Busch Gardens and Universal Studios, Orlando.. the last 4 days bestowed an elegance to the whole trip with the unlimited fun and pranks prevailing in our minds.. (in mine forever)..

oru thedal illa na life la oru shortcoming is felt..an urge or driving force is essential to push ourselves forward in this rapid world.. intha vacation n eagerness towards it kept me incited in the months Oct,Nov n Dec thru hardships n tuf times.. this is one reason why i wanted to publish my trip experience as a post..

it is a small world.. nallavanga kandippa santhipaanga...konjam selavu thaan aagum..:P adutha trip most probably in austin with a bigger gang..ciao till then.. :)
